Two Women Dead, Four Critically Injured as Iron Pipe Falls Off Truck on Old Mumbai-Pune Highway near Khopoli

A tragic accident on the Old Mumbai-Pune Highway near Khopoli on Saturday evening claimed the lives of two women and left four others critically injured. The incident occurred when a heavy iron pipe, reportedly not properly secured, fell off a moving truck and struck vehicles trailing behind.
The mishap took place around 7 PM at the start of the Khopoli Ghat section, a stretch often congested with weekend traffic. According to preliminary reports, the truck was ascending the ghat slowly when it came to a stop, causing the iron pipe to dislodge and fall onto a two-wheeler and a four-wheeler following closely.
There were two individuals on the two-wheeler and five occupants in the four-wheeler. Tragically, two women lost their lives at the scene. The four others who sustained critical injuries were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Emergency services and Khopoli Police faced significant delays reaching the spot due to heavy traffic. Rescue operations are ongoing, and authorities are working to clear the debris and restore traffic flow.
The exact cause of the accident is still under investigation, and further details are awaited.
