Pune : An Uber driver has revealed that he generated income by declining rides to the customers. Moreover, he accepted less than 10 per cent of the requests and cancelled more than 30 per cent of the rides.

The 70-year-old individual opted to become an Uber driver to supplement his retirement funds. He exclusively accepted requests that he deemed worthwhile, and it appears that this approach proved to be successful for him.

Throughout 2022, he accumulated a total of Rs 23.3 lakh in earnings after cancelling nearly 1,500 trips. Nevertheless, he noticed a decline in the occurrence of surges in his vicinity, prompting him to reduce his driving hours.

Previously, the man used to work 40 hours per week, but gradually he reduced his working hours to 30 per week. According to reports, he spent time declining work opportunities. “I only accept jobs when there is a surge in demand,” he said. To maximize his chances of finding customers, the driver strategically positioned himself in busy areas such as bars and airports between 10:00 a.m. and 2:30 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. Additionally, he avoids accepting ‘one-way rides’. Recalling a specific incident, he shared that he drove a customer for approximately two hours within his city and received a payment of Rs 2,246.

A homeopathic doctor recently recounted her experience with an Uber driver, during which she received inappropriate messages. This distressing situation has left her feeling extremely uncomfortable and has raised serious security and safety concerns.

The doctor strongly believes that Uber should be a platform where customers, especially women, can trust the drivers and the overall experience. She is deeply concerned about the safety of female passengers who rely on Uber for transportation.
