Under PMAY, PCMC Completes Flats for Economically Weaker Sections, Set to Distribute Keys
Under the central government’s Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has constructed flats for economically weaker sections in Pimpri and Akurdi. This year’s Dussehra is set to be sweeter for the beneficiaries of this project, as the municipal administration has announced that the key distribution ceremony will take place soon.
The PCMC, under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, has constructed six buildings in Akurdi with a total of 568 flats and two buildings in Pimpri with 370 flats. These projects are funded jointly by the central government, the state government, and contributions from the beneficiaries. The construction has been completed and certified, and the beneficiaries have already been selected.
For the past two months, beneficiaries have been paying the installments of their home loans, but the flats had not yet been handed over to them. Against this backdrop, BJP MLA Mahesh Landge held a meeting with the Municipal Commissioner and other officials, where they were assured that the distribution process would be expedited. As a result, the issue has now been resolved, and the key distribution ceremony is expected to take place within a week.
Initially, the reservation for the Pimpri and Akurdi projects under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana was for the homeless. However, following requests from the state government, the reservation category was expanded to include economically weaker sections. After the project’s foundation-laying ceremony, the flats were allotted to eligible beneficiaries, and now the distribution is about to begin. Reflecting on the success of this initiative, MLA Mahesh Landge expressed satisfaction with the project’s progression from reservation changes to inauguration.
“Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Housing for All,’ the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana has been implemented in various locations across Pimpri-Chinchwad. This initiative is helping fulfill the dream of many ordinary citizens to own a home, while also working towards making the city slum-free. The beneficiaries of the Pimpri and Akurdi projects had been waiting for their flats for quite some time. Now, with the project’s inauguration imminent, these beneficiaries will finally receive their rightful homes,” said Mahesh Landge, BJP MLA from Bhosari.
