Some Facts Of Skin Tone & Skin Complexion

Skin Tone refers to your base skin colour, While Skin Complexion includes any other colour present in your skin like any Redness, White Spots, Dark Spots or Hyperpigmentation on skin and around eyes. Colour of human skin results from complex mechanism involving genes and also mainly related to melanin (skin pigment) biosynthetic pathway.


According to Dermatological Fitzpatrick Scale, Skin is divided into-

  • Type I
  • Type II
  • Type III
  • Type IV
  • Type V
  • Type VI

Indian/Asian Skin falls between the Type III, IV, V.
Skin tone ranges in variety, from palest hues to darkest browns, but are usually placed into four categories- fair, light, medium or dark.

In India and worldwide, skin colour is linked to discrimination related to racism, ethnicity, religion and also in hiring people for jobs and in marital aspect while selecting bride and groom.
Hence, the skin colour or lighter skin colour becomes very important in our life while being linked to social and psychological well-being.
Skin colour can be measured with Spectro-radiometer and Colorimetry technology used to quantify colour and describe objectively the colour perception.

What Is Skin Lightening?
