Pune, March 5, 2026: Residents of the Mohammadwadi and Undri areas have raised serious concerns over stalled infrastructure works and worsening traffic conditions, urging the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to take immediate action. The Mohammadwadi–Undri Residents Welfare Development Foundation (MURWDF), representing more than 50 housing societies in the locality, has submitted a formal letter to PMC’s Chief Engineer of Roads highlighting two critical civic issues.
According to residents, the stretch between Kad Nagar Junction and Nyati Windchimes on Undri Marg has become severely congested and unsafe due to poor road conditions and increasing traffic load. The road, which currently handles around 7,000 vehicles daily—including school buses and water tankers—is reportedly operating far beyond its capacity.
Residents stated that an alternative private access road through Someshwar Society, which had been permitted by the court, was closed in September 2025 to make way for a proposed elevated road project under a public-private partnership (PPP) model. At the time, authorities had assured that alternate access would be restored within three to four months and that the elevated road project would be completed within two years.
However, locals claim that while the project began with initial groundwork, construction activity came to a halt after the municipal corporation elections. As a result, the entire traffic burden has shifted to the already damaged Undri Marg, leading to severe daily congestion.
When Pune Pulse spoke to Rajesh Bankar, Chief Engineer, Road Department, PMC, he assured to look into the matter and resolve the issues promptly.
Residents say the situation is particularly concerning for school children, senior citizens, and emergency services, as the area lacks an alternative evacuation route in case of road blockages or emergencies. They have demanded immediate clarification from civic authorities regarding the reason for the delay, a confirmed date for resumption of work, and a clear timeline for project completion. They have also urged PMC to carry out urgent repairs on Undri Marg to ensure it remains motorable.
The foundation has also highlighted another pending issue at Kad Nagar Junction, where work to shift overhead low-tension (LT) electric lines to an underground cable system has reportedly stalled. According to residents, the delay has worsened traffic congestion at the busy T-junction near the Indian Oil petrol pump, where commuters often face delays of up to an hour.
Residents say roadside encroachments and vehicle parking near vegetable vendors further aggravate the bottleneck. With nearly 14 schools located in the surrounding area, daily traffic congestion has significantly affected students and parents.
Local residents have urged PMC officials to provide a clear timeline for both projects and ensure swift action to address the growing infrastructure challenges in the area.
