According to family sources, Jani experienced discomfort while watching television at their residence and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was declared dead. The cause of death was identified as a massive cardiac arrest.

Jani, Usha Uthup’s second husband, had a long-standing association with the tea plantation sector. The couple first met at the iconic Trincas in the early 1970s. Jani is survived by his wife Usha, a son, and a daughter. The family has announced that the last rites will be held on Tuesday.

Usha Uthup, who was recently honored with the Padma Bhushan, India’s third-highest civilian award, for her contributions to the music industry, expressed her profound sense of loss. At a recent ceremony, she mentioned how much she missed her frequent collaborator, the late Bappi Lahiri, and the legendary RD Burman.
