V Collect – A declutter initiative by SWaCH on wheels flagged off

V collect has been a regular and much in demand initiative of the PMC-SWaCH model through which the citizens of Pune give away tonnes of discarded but reusable items. Diwali is one of the busiest times of the year for all those in waste management and looking at the demand PMC SWaCH are taking it a step up.

Mounted on wheels this year, V collect is more agile and quick and will be catering to the entire city by turns. With 5 routes that traverse through different parts of the city on predetermined dates, citizens across town can avail this service and hand over their discarded items that range from clothes, kitchen utensils, shoes, books, toys, electronic items etc. Often without recourse to V collect like initiatives, these items may end up as dangerous items (leaching, bleeding colours etc) in landfills, or just lying about unused and become wasted resources.

PMC SWaCH has also determined the need for such a service and will be running this more regularly in due course may be every three months depending on the demand for it. The initiative has been received with great enthusiasm by the citizenry.  Given the current crisis of landfills and the need to conserve resources it is imperative that such a system be made available to the citizens of Pune. The V collect initiative has been diverting an average of 10-12 tonnes of discards to good use over some time now. A drop off desk will also be stationed at PMC during this time for anyone who wishes to come by to avail the facility.

Waste management in these times has progressed beyond just simple everyday collection as there is a high volume of discarded but recyclable or repurposed material. V collect helps the underprivileged access good quality, reusable items and also helps preserve the environment and reduce our carbon foot print.

Present on the occasion were Madhav Jagtap, Deputy Commissioner SWM, Sanjay Gawade, Hod SWM, Kunal Khemnar, Additional Municipal Commissioner, and  Alok Gogate, Suman More  and  Lakshmi Narayan of SWaCH. A detailed route map will be available at most societies serviced by SWaCH or can be ascertained through our helpline, 9765999500 or website and social media.
