Dinesh Nandwana, Chairman Emeritus of Vakrangee Limited, passed away on January 31, 2025. He was 62 years old. Nandwana, originally from Kota, Rajasthan, was the founder of the technology firm Vakrangee Limited.  

Nandwana’s death occurred while the Enforcement Directorate (ED) was conducting a search at his residence in Andheri (East), Mumbai. Police stated that the exact cause of death would be confirmed after a postmortem.

The MIDC police have registered an accidental death report. A senior police officer confirmed that Nandwana’s family had not filed any complaints of misconduct. The ED’s Jalandhar unit, with local support, was conducting searches at multiple locations linked to Nandwana when he experienced health complications. During such searches, ED typically restricts movement and communication of the individuals involved.  

Vakrangee Limited confirmed Nandwana’s passing in a statement to the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), describing him as a first-generation entrepreneur.

Vakrangee is a leading Indian technology firm providing banking, insurance, e-governance, e-commerce, and logistics services. It is a key supplier of software and equipment for voter ID and Aadhaar cards. Forbes recognizes Vakrangee as one of India’s largest system integrators for government projects.  

Dinesh Nandwana, a Chartered Accountant, founded Vakrangee in 1990 as a tech consultancy firm. The company later expanded its operations, producing voter ID cards in 1993 and becoming an Aadhaar UID card franchise in 2010.  

In July 2017, Forbes India listed Vakrangee among its “Super 50” companies. At that time, its market capitalization exceeded ₹240 billion (US$2.8 billion). Nandwana was ranked India’s 88th richest person, with a net worth of US$1.72 billion.
