The blast, which occurred around 6:30 pm, resulted in severe injuries to several individuals present at the showroom. Disturbing videos circulating on social media platforms depict the chaotic scene as rescue efforts were underway to evacuate the injured from the jewellery shop.
In response to the emergency, the injured were swiftly transported to Vims Hospital in the city for urgent medical attention. The showroom’s window panes were shattered in the explosion, indicating the intensity of the blast. Initial reports suggest that a short circuit may have been the cause of the incident.
Firefighters, accompanied by city DySP, Brucepete circle inspector, and their teams, promptly arrived at the scene to conduct an inspection and ensure the safety of those present. Despite the swift response, the incident attracted a crowd of onlookers, with hundreds gathering at the site.
As investigations into the matter continue, no official statement has been issued by local authorities or the police regarding the cause of the blast. While some media reports speculate that the explosion resulted from a short circuit, the exact circumstances leading to the tragic incident are yet to be determined.
We deeply regret the incident that occurred last evening (May 2nd, 2024) at our Bellary showroom during the maintenance of the air conditioning unit. Three representatives of the contracted agency for the air conditioning and two employees of Kalyan Jewellers were injured and rushed to the hospital for medical care and are presently recovering. We are offering all the support required to ensure their speedy recovery. We are also conducting a thorough investigation into the cause leading to this unfortunate incident,” spokesperson, Kalyan Jewellers informed.
