Since some time now, Viman Nagar & VIP Airport Road has been facing traffic jams which are growing with each passing day. Solutions to resolve this have been submitted to Vijay Magar (DCP Traffic) several times, discussed with Rajkumar Shere (senior PI Planning) and site visits taken with Idekar (Senior PI Viman Tal Traffic Division).

Qaneez Sukhrani , Convenor – Viman Nagar Citizens Forum said,”Congestion occurs merely because of a growing population without traffic management systems in place. Our solutions are citizen friendly and simple to execute, which Traffic Police should have been doing all this time without letting residents & citizens face untold trauma. Now we shall monitor whether Police has the will to execute this to make Viman Nagar and VIP Airport Road congestion free.”

She said, “Note having one-ways is not the solution as Police do not have manpower to monitor this in a City which loves to not follow rules.”

On VIP Airport Road Ã¨

  1. Install traffic signal at junction of Dorabjee Chowk (which is a cross road) and injunction of GoldCoast & Symbiosis School (T-junction) within 15 days
  2. Until signals are installed have warden directing traffic at morning & evening peak hours
  3. Full VIP Airport Road is ‘No parking / no halting’ (Boards are put up by Police). However Traffic towing vans must take repeated action on private taxicabs and vehicles on both sides of Sanjay Park slums. Towing van must not be reluctant.
  4. Road which goes diagonally from VIP Airport Road to 509 chowk is also full of private taxicabs. Action must be taken against them as they are a business enterprise and so they cannot park on public roads, thereby causing congestion. If they are waiting for passengers from the airport, they must park at Aero Mall.

Existing Traffic Signals

Existing two signals at Gangapuram Chowk and Datta Mandir Chowk must work at morning and evening peak hours. Most of the time they are not working and the warden at Datta Mandir Chowk is either absconding or standing in the shade while traffic is building up.

P1/P2 parking Ã¨

P1/P2 exists on Ganga puram to Ganpathy Mandir, Symbiosis Schools to Shrikrishna Hotel, road with VimanTal Police Station is. It must be P1 / P2 incorporated on the road from Datta Mandir to Kailash Market also because this is the most congested especially at evening peak hours. At the time, a warden must be present to direct traffic as vehicles from all directions get into a grid at Kailash Market side. Within 15 days, Traffic Police must conduct a study to make the road that goes towards Rajiv Nagar one-way.

No parking for commercial vehicles on public roads

All narrow roads in Viman Nagar are jammed with parking of tempos, bank vans, and private taxicabs. Police must ban this as these are all commercial establishments.

No parking for private vehicles on public roads

Traffic Police must issue notices to all housing & commercial societies that their residents, employees, visitors must park inside. For instance, the E Core building opposite Neco Garden is fully commercial. It has many floors for visitor parking but has a parking fee. Because of this, visitors park on public roads.

No debris, hawking / vending on footpaths, kerbs spilling onto roads

  1. Traffic Police must issue notice to PMC to shift all hawkers / vendors to hawking zones. Two places have been suggested ny us to PMC but they are finding excuses not to shift. So Police must insist re-location to HCMTR Road and behind Zesar Biodiversity Park
  2. Traffic Police must issue notice to PMC to remove debris, garbage, dry leaves that spill over to streets and roads that obstruct smooth movement of traffic

Miscellaneous for which Traffic Police must take action

  1. Driving schools, vehicle repair units cannot be allowed to congest narrow lanes.
  2. Abandoned vehicles must be removed.
  3. More than allowed autos cannot stand at stands earmarked by RTO for a specific number
