Parents Outraged as Nursery School Charges Rs 8,400 for Parent Orientation, Rs 55,600 for Admission

A nursery school’s notice detailing its annual fee structure has stunned the internet, sparking outrage over the escalating costs of early education in India. The notice, which listed a one-time parent orientation fee of Rs 8,400 and an admission fee of Rs 55,600 for children in nursery and junior KG, went viral after being shared by Dr. Jagdish Chaturvedi, an ENT surgeon, on X (formerly Twitter).

Dr. Chaturvedi’s post read, “Rs 8,400 parent orientation fee! No parent will ever agree to pay even 20 percent of this for a doctor’s consultation. I am planning to open a school now.” The post quickly gained traction, garnering nearly 67,000 views and sparking a heated debate on the country’s exorbitant education system.

Many users chimed in with their frustrations. One user noted, “People will spend for their children what they will never do for themselves. That is why expensive coaching centers, schools, and colleges are proliferating like crazy.” Another user, sarcastically remarked, “Rs 55,000 Admission fees! Are they admitting in Ivy League preschools?”

One user lamented the changing times, writing, “Was lucky in our and children’s times. Quality education at a reasonable price. Now it is pure dacoity in the name of education which is also pedestrian.”

The steep fees even led some to suggest alternative methods of education. One user proposed, “Do homeschooling and pay that amount in mutual funds. I am sure your son would come out as a crorepati.”

This isn’t the first time high school fees have sparked online debates. Earlier this year, a real estate consultant from Gurugram shared that he was paying Rs 30,000 a month for his Class 3 son’s education. He raised concerns that if the school continued to hike fees by 10 percent annually, he would be paying around Rs 9,00,000 per year by the time his son reached Class 12.

As the discussion on expensive education continues to rage online, many parents are left questioning whether the rising costs are justified or simply a reflection of the growing commercialization of education.
