Viral Video: Asked Not To Smoke, Youth Torches Bike With Lighter At Petrol Pump At Chhattisgarh's Raipur
A major accident was narrowly averted at a petrol pump in Raipur after a man allegedly set a fuel nozzle on fire when stopped from smoking.
The incident occurred on Thursday evening in the Urla area. According to police, two men — Dharmendra Kshatri and Imran — arrived on a motorcycle to refill fuel. While Imran remained seated on the bike, Dharmendra opened the tank and reportedly tried to light a cigarette.
Petrol pump staff immediately warned him that smoking was strictly prohibited due to the risk of fire. Angered by the warning, Dharmendra allegedly used a lighter to ignite the fuel nozzle pipe. Flames quickly spread to the motorcycle’s tank and the dispensing machine, triggering panic at the station as everyone rushed to safety.
A pump attendant reacted swiftly, pulling the nozzle away and shutting off the main fuel supply. Staff then used on-site fire-safety equipment to control and extinguish the blaze before it could escalate into a major disaster.
Police said some burning fuel splashed on the accused during the incident. The duo attempted to flee but were caught by staff and handed over to authorities.
Based on CCTV footage and a formal complaint, Urla police arrested both men and registered a case under sections related to arson and endangering public safety, said Inspector Rohit Mahelkar.
