Viral Video Questions Safety of Eggoz Eggs, Brand Responds Amid Public Concern

Premium egg brand Eggoz Nutrition has found itself under intense social media scrutiny following claims that its eggs may contain traces of a banned chemical linked to cancer. Known for promoting fresh, chemical-free eggs, the brand’s reputation has taken a hit as concerned consumers share videos and reports online.

The controversy began when the YouTube channel Trustified, which conducts independent lab tests on health products, released a report indicating that Eggoz eggs contained AOZ, a metabolite of the antibiotic Nitrofuran. This chemical is prohibited in poultry farming due to potential carcinogenic effects. Although the detected level—0.73 parts per billion—was extremely low, it contradicted Eggoz’s long-standing claim of selling “100% Antibiotic Free” eggs.

For many paying a premium for these eggs, the revelation felt like a breach of trust. The presence of even minute traces of a banned substance sparked widespread concern among health-conscious consumers.

Medical professionals have stepped in to provide context. Dr. Manan Vora, an orthopedic surgeon and content creator, addressed the viral claims, urging the public not to panic. He noted that while the findings were surprising for a brand promoting high-purity eggs, the levels detected were trace amounts that do not pose an immediate health risk. “The real concern,” he explained, “is not immediate toxicity but the breach of trust and the broader issue of how these chemicals enter the food chain at all.”

Eggoz Nutrition responded to the controversy on December 9, emphasizing that their eggs remain safe and comply with Indian regulations, which allow minimal residue due to unavoidable environmental factors such as contaminated groundwater. The company issued a statement on Instagram:

“We are aware of a video that is currently being shared and understand that it may have raised some questions and concerns. We want to reassure our consumers that our eggs are safe for consumption and comply with the standards set by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI).”

The statement also detailed the brand’s quality control measures: “We take every care to maintain quality and safety at our farms and across the entire value chain which includes ensuring zero anti-biotic usage. Our process also includes sourcing best quality feed, to storage, transport and delivery, which is in line with established food safety practices. As an added measure to provide further reassurance to our consumers and other stakeholders, we have initiated additional testing through an independent NABL-accredited laboratory.”

To further address consumer concerns, Eggoz shared an update on X (formerly Twitter) on December 11, providing a direct link to lab reports for public viewing. While the timing of the uploads remains unclear, the move signals the company’s intent to counter the narrative created by the viral video.
