Wakad: Grand Celebration of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti at Western Avenue Society
Pune: The birth anniversary of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was celebrated with great enthusiasm at the Western Avenue Society, wakad. This year, the highlight of the event was the grand play “Escape from Agra,” which captivated an audience of approximately 800 people.
The Western Avenue Cultural Committee and its dedicated volunteers organized this event with the aim of passing on historical knowledge to the younger generations.The play featured a talented cast of 80 children and 50 adults, who brought history to life with their remarkable performances.
The Mahanatya depicted Maharashtra’s glorious past, beginning with the Yadav era and moving through significant moments of Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s journey. The audience witnessed an emotional portrayal of Shivjanma Powada, the Agra Durbar, the kothi where Maharaj was imprisoned, Rajgad Darbar, and Mirza Raja Jaisingh’s kothi. One of the most breathtaking moments was the real escape scene, where authentic “petare” (wooden boxes) were used, adding to the realism and grandeur of the performance.
The program also included mesmerizing dance performances on traditional songs by children, further enhancing the historical ambiance. The flawless execution of the play and the dedication of the performers transformed this production into a true “Mahanatya,” leaving the audience deeply moved and emotional by the end.
