Wakad : Housing society manager booked for misusing funds

The Pimpri Chinchwad Police on Wednesday arrested a man in connection with allegations of misusing funds from a housing society for personal gain.

The suspect, identified as Rahul Kangare (31), was taken into custody by Wakad police after an investigation revealed that he had misappropriated Rs 6.94 lakh funds intended for the housing society’s maintenance and operations.

According to Police, Rahul, who served as the manager of the Pride Purple housing society (B Buidling) at Kalewadi Phata in Pimpri Chinchwad, allegedly used the funds for his personal expenses. The misappropriation of funds was reportedly carried out in the last six months, and the total amount involved is estimated to be in Rs 6.94 lakh.

The housing society, which is located in a suburban area, consists of several residential and commercial units and is managed by a committee of elected members. They have appointed Rahul as a manager in 2021 who looks after day to day society work.

According to the Police, the society has recently appointed an agency to handle their finance and account related work but since last six months Rahul was dealing with it during which he misused the society funds.

Assistant police inspector (API) Abhay Dabhade of Wakad police, said, “Rahul every times use to add one zero in amount mentioned on cheque and withdraw money.When society appointed new agency for account purpose they find out 11 such transactions and asked about society office bearers,then only fraud came in to light.’’

Police have arrested the accused and court granted him police custody till 14 April.
