After the incident where a woman was brutally attacked during her morning walk in Wakad, the citizens have united against the crimes in the areas by closely following up with the team of Police official at Wakad Police station, led by SPI Vivek Mugalikar. Earlier, the residents had also pulled up a meeting with SPI to highlight the threats and shadowy hotspots giving rise to the crimes in the area.

Assistant Commissioner of Police, Shrikant Disale, in association with the Pimpri Chinchwad Housing Society Federation (PCHSF), took part in a morning walk with citizens to understand the problems faced by civilians. The ACP also walked the talk by understanding the core issues which is leaving the citizens in fear for safety.

Kiran Vadgama, while talking to Pune Pulse said, “Overall, it was a good social activity. Close to 70 people participated in the walk with 20 Police officials taking note of every problem. However, hatsoff to the Police officials who are working over-time, day in and out, for the safety of residents. I believe that our Police officials are being overworked and hence there is a growing need for the deployment of additional officials to the existing team, considering the geographical area of Wakad, which is widespread and huge as compared to other regions.”

Tejaswini Dhomse, a member of PCHSF, who, too, helped in organising the event said, “It was a walk for understanding our responsibility and social awareness. The walk was meant to send a stern message to the masses involved in anti-social activities. The Police team led by ACP Shrikant Disale, understood the hotspots of crime and threatening areas. He has assured us that necessary action will be taken concerning public safety as its top most priority.”

ACP, Shrikant Disale, who led this drive and initiative, will be participating in such morning walks invited and initiated by the citizens of any area under its jurisdication.

While talking to Pune Pulse, assistant commissioner of police, Shrikant Disale said, “In the past few months, we were witnessing growing incidents of chain snatching and attacks on morning walkers. A few of us were dressed as civilians in the walk to display that our operation against the threat will be 24/7. This walk was meant to understand the public perspective and pierce the streak of crimes and take the criminals to the task. Also, we want to send a message to the masses that take care of your safety. Avoid going alone to the walk. One must avoid going to the isolated places. Apart from the instructions, the drive also focused on social motives such as healthy body and healthy mind; bridging the gap between people and the Police administration.”
