‘Waste To Wonder’ Contest Launched By PCMC To Drive Recycling And Beautification
Pimpri, March 21, 2026: Marking Global Recycling Day, the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has announced the launch of an innovative ‘Waste to Wonder’ competition for its regional offices, aiming to encourage recycling while enhancing the city’s visual appeal.
The initiative is being implemented by the civic body’s health department under the guidance of Mayor Ravi Landge, Deputy Mayor Sharmila Babar, Municipal Commissioner Dr. Vijay Suryavanshi, and Additional Commissioner Vijaykumar Khorate. Deputy Commissioner Dr. Pradeep Thengal and Assistant Commissioner Kiran Kumar More are overseeing its execution.
The competition will be conducted across all eight regional offices, covering 32 wards. It focuses on promoting cleanliness alongside creative reuse of discarded materials. Participants are expected to transform waste into artistic installations, blending environmental responsibility with aesthetic improvement.
Officials said the initiative aims to give a new purpose to discarded items while spreading awareness about sustainable practices. Citizens and local bodies will showcase creative projects by converting waste into visually appealing structures, thereby delivering a strong message on environmental conservation.
Special emphasis has been placed on redesigning garbage-prone areas into attractive and innovative spaces. Authorities believe this will not only improve the city’s appearance but also encourage greater public awareness about cleanliness.
Participants must register through an online link, with the deadline set for March 24, 2026, at 12 noon.
Assistant Commissioner Kiran Kumar More expressed confidence that the initiative would contribute to enhancing the city’s beauty while promoting an eco-friendly lifestyle.
Mayor Ravi Landge said the competition would inspire citizens to embrace both cleanliness and creativity. “By reusing waste materials, this initiative will help make the city more beautiful and environmentally responsible,” he said.
Municipal Commissioner Dr. Vijay Suryavanshi added that the programme goes beyond cleanliness and seeks to instill sustainable habits among citizens. He noted that increasing awareness about waste management and recycling would play a key role in making the city cleaner and more sustainable.
