Indian cricketer’s playful tribute to viral baba garners millions of views.

Former Indian cricketer Shikhar Dhawan has added his own humorous take on the viral ‘Laddu Muthya’ or “Pankha Baba” trend, delighting fans on social media. In a playful Instagram video shared recently, Dhawan is seen seated on a chair as three men lift him towards a ceiling fan. Following in the viral baba’s footsteps, Dhawan “stops” the fan with his hand, then blesses his helpers by tapping their foreheads, mimicking the popular Laddu Muthya Baba’s style.

The post, captioned “Fan waale Baba ki jai ho,” quickly went viral, amassing over 57 million views. Fans flooded the comments, some hailing him as the “Entertaining Cricketer of the Year.” One fan humorously noted, “Now this should be the end of this trend. Even Shikhar bro jumped on the bandwagon.”

The trend draws inspiration from Laddu Muthya, a revered figure who gained a following in Karnataka’s Bagalkote region. Known for his “miraculous powers” and believed to bring blessings of prosperity wherever he went, Laddu Muthya became legendary before his passing in 1993. The baba in the viral videos is said to be a priest from a temple dedicated to Laddu Muthya’s memory, keeping the legacy alive for a new generation of devotees.
