Few moments in recent times have moved devotees the way this extraordinary feat did. People of every age often speak of climbing a few steps during festivals or pilgrimages, but witnessing someone merge classical dance with such a demanding uphill journey in under ten minutes felt truly mesmerizing. This time, devotion wasn’t just expressed through prayers — it unfolded through rhythm, breath, discipline and sheer willpower. That is why the sight of young Bharatanatyam artiste R. Harshitha scaling 574 steps of Anjanadri Hill in 8 minutes and 59 seconds, all while performing continuous dance movements, left thousands in awe.

The talented performer from Hosapete, in Vijayanagara district, had pledged to offer this unique seva during Hanuman Vrat, promising herself that every step she climbed would be accompanied by Bharatanatyam mudras and movements. Supported wholeheartedly by her parents, she turned this vow into reality on the steep and challenging ascent of the sacred hill in Gangavati, Koppal district.

Throughout her climb, Harshitha showcased various Bharatanatyam postures, maintaining rhythm even on the uneven steps. Completing the ascent in just under nine minutes, she reached the summit amidst admiration from fellow devotees, who watched her blend devotion with discipline in a way rarely seen.

Upon reaching the top, she continued her offering by performing a short Bharatanatyam recital in the temple courtyard before receiving darshan of Lord Anjaneya. Temple authorities later felicitated her, expressing appreciation for her dedication and the spiritual beauty she brought to the occasion.

Meanwhile, Anjanadri Hill itself transformed into a sea of devotion. Lakhs of devotees arrived for the Hanuma Mala Visarjane, turning the entire hillside saffron with their presence. As the morning sun rose, its golden light spilled across the hilltop, intensifying the already powerful spiritual atmosphere.

Chants of “Jai Ram, Jai Anjaneya” filled the historic Kishkindha region from midnight onwards, as Hanuma Maladharis from across Karnataka began their climb. The rituals extended beyond the hill too—devotees performed the Visarjane at designated points before taking a holy dip in the Tungabhadra river or nearby ghats, then making their way upwards to seek blessings at the Anjaneyaswamy Temple.

The temple premises have been alive with sacred activity for two days, featuring rituals such as Pavamana Homa, various homas and havans, along with special pujas conducted with immense passion. Inside the sanctum, Lord Anjaneya was adorned with intricate floral decorations that added to the divine experience for visitors.

In the midst of this vast spiritual celebration, Harshitha’s remarkable climb stood out not just for its physical difficulty, but for the artistic and devotional depth it carried. Her performance reminded onlookers that devotion can take countless forms — sometimes even expressed through every lifted foot, every graceful movement and every heartbeat racing up a holy hill.
