A wave of discontent is sweeping through the streets of Khairewadi, a village nestled within Pune’s Shivajinagar, as nearly 10,000 residents find themselves embroiled in a dire water crisis. Frustrated by months of erratic, insufficient, and low-pressure water supply, the villagers are now raising their voices in a bold declaration: “No Water, No Vote.” This ominous banner, unfurled prominently on the main road, serves as a stark warning to political parties vying for support ahead of the looming Lok Sabha elections on May 13.

Despite repeated appeals and complaints to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), the villagers lament that their grievances remain unaddressed. With the onset of summer exacerbating their plight, the prospect of enduring months of water scarcity looms ominously. Forced to rely on water supplied by tankers, residents are burdened with hours spent fulfilling basic needs, further amplifying their frustration.

The situation is compounded by the ongoing Pune Metro construction on University Road and other developmental projects, which are blamed for siphoning away precious water resources. With no relief in sight and their patience wearing thin, the villagers are considering drastic action, including boycotting the upcoming elections unless their water woes are promptly resolved.

As the banner casts a shadow over the political landscape, politicians from various parties are scrambling to address the burgeoning crisis. For the residents of Khairewadi, the message is clear: their voices will not be silenced until their fundamental right to water is restored.
