Residents of Mundhwa have found themselves engulfed in a cloud of concern and frustration as the presence of an illegal Ready Mix Concrete (RMC) plant in their vicinity continues to plague the community with environmental hazards and dangerous road conditions.

An X user, Anil Bhandwalkar posted tweets a few days ago highlighting the issue of the RMC plant in the Mundhwa area. The tweet contained a video showcasing cement-mixed gravel sourced from the illicit plant, which has found its way onto the roads, causing pollution levels to increase and jeopardising public safety.

The tweet tags the District Officer, Municipal Commissioner, Pune Police Commissioner, Maharashtra Pollution Control Board and Regional Transport Office (RTO), who are among the targets of public rage, with allegations of negligence in upholding regulatory standards and safeguarding citizen welfare.

“Why are all IAS officers keeping silent while drawing salaries paid by citizens’ taxes?” the tweet by Bhandwalkar read, echoing the sentiments of many who feel abandoned by the Pune Municipal Corporation.

The absence of decisive action from authorities is concerning the citizens over the detrimental effects of unchecked pollution and hazardous road conditions.

The tweet also highlights the absence of traffic police authorities from the scene as concerns loom over road safety, heightening fears of accidents and injuries due to the hazardous conditions.

In support of the tweet by Bhandwalkar, another X user @mi_pratikbhasar commented, “@PMCPune you have raised complaints many times for this issue and again it is happening. Do you have any proper solution for this? I saw one rider slip on this and was injured heavily.”

As frustrations mount and calls for action intensify, the residents of Mundhwa await concrete steps from authorities to address the illegal RMC plant, curb pollution levels and restore order to their community.
