Sudden drop in temperatures triggers cold wave conditions in North and West Maharashtra; fog warning for Mumbai and Pune.

Pune/Mumbai: Weather conditions across Maharashtra have changed sharply, with a significant drop in temperatures leading to intensified cold wave conditions in several regions. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Yellow Alert for the next 24 hours in at least seven districts, warning residents to remain cautious as cold conditions are expected to persist on Monday, December 22.

On Sunday, parts of Central Maharashtra experienced a noticeable cold spell. The chill is expected to spread further on Monday, affecting North Maharashtra and West Maharashtra, including Pune and Solapur districts. The IMD has cautioned that minimum temperatures may dip further, increasing discomfort, especially during early morning and late-night hours.

Mumbai Weather Update:
Mumbai city and its suburban areas are likely to witness dense morning fog, which may impact visibility during early hours. Despite the fog, temperatures in Mumbai are expected to remain relatively higher compared to the rest of the state. The minimum temperature is likely to hover around 20°C, while the maximum temperature may reach 33°C.

Pune and Western Maharashtra:
Cold wave conditions are being strongly felt across Pune and Solapur, where minimum temperatures have dropped to 9–10°C. Similar conditions are expected to continue on Monday, with dense morning fog predicted in Pune. Authorities have advised residents to wear warm clothing and take precautions, especially senior citizens and children.

North Maharashtra:
A cold wave is expected to affect Nashik, Jalgaon, Dhule, Nandurbar and Ahilyanagar, all of which have been placed under a Yellow Alert. Minimum temperatures in the region are likely to range between 10°C and 12°C.

Marathwada Region:
Marathwada is also experiencing increased cold conditions, with minimum temperatures around 13°C. Districts such as Nanded, Parbhani and Jalna are reporting a rise in cold intensity. The mercury is expected to fall further, worsening the chill.

Vidarbha Update:
Vidarbha has recorded one of the sharpest drops in temperature, with the mercury falling to as low as 8°C in some areas. In Nagpur, the minimum temperature may dip to 9°C, and cold conditions are expected to persist.

Health Advisory:
With temperatures falling below 10°C in many parts of the state, health experts advise citizens to take necessary precautions. People are urged to wear warm clothes, avoid exposure to cold winds, and exercise caution while travelling during foggy conditions.
