As the cyclone ‘Biporjoy’ gathers strength in the Arabian Sea, it has significantly intensified the monsoon currents, leading to the swift progression of the monsoon along the Karnataka coast. The town of Karwar, located on the border of Goa, has already witnessed the arrival of the monsoon. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted that Goa and Maharashtra will experience the onset of the monsoon by Monday (12th).
Earlier, on Thursday (8th), the monsoon made its way into the mainland, marking its entry in Kerala. It then continued its journey through South Tamil Nadu, encompassing most parts of Kerala. On Saturday (10th), the monsoon further advanced westward through the Central Arabian Sea.
According to the Meteorological Department, the monsoon has now engulfed a significant portion of the Northeast states, the entirety of Kerala, the entire Karnataka coast, and various areas of the Bay of Bengal. Notable locations in the monsoon’s trajectory include Karwar, Merkara, Kodaikanal, and Adirampattinam.
