Maharashtra, May 21, 2026: Maharashtra is set to witness contrasting weather conditions on May 22, with parts of Western Maharashtra likely to receive rainfall while Vidarbha continues to reel under an intense heatwave. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued rain alerts for several districts and heatwave warnings across eastern Maharashtra.
According to the forecast, districts in Konkan and Western Maharashtra may experience light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds, while temperatures in Vidarbha are expected to remain dangerously high.

In the Konkan region, Ratnagiri district has been placed under a yellow alert for rain and thunderstorms. The IMD has predicted isolated spells of moderate rainfall along with lightning activity. Although no formal alert has been issued for Sindhudurg, Thane and Raigad districts, cloudy skies and brief showers are likely in some areas. Mumbai is expected to continue experiencing hot and humid conditions.
Pune and Satara districts in Western Maharashtra have also been issued a yellow alert for thunderstorms and rainfall, especially during afternoon and evening hours. Light to moderate showers are also likely in parts of Kolhapur, Sangli and Solapur districts.
Meanwhile, Vidarbha continues to face extreme heat conditions. The IMD has issued a red alert for Akola, Amravati and Wardha districts, warning residents about a significant rise in temperatures and the risk of heat-related illnesses. Authorities have advised people to avoid stepping outdoors during peak afternoon hours.
An orange alert for severe heat has been issued in Chandrapur, Nagpur and Yavatmal districts, where hot and dry weather conditions are expected to persist. The weather department has urged residents to stay hydrated and avoid prolonged exposure to sunlight due to the increased risk of heatstroke.
Gadchiroli and Gondia districts remain under a yellow alert for above-normal temperatures, with scorching conditions likely from early morning onward.
In Marathwada, no official alert has been issued, but the IMD has predicted isolated light to moderate rainfall in Beed, Latur and Dharashiv districts. Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar is expected to continue experiencing high temperatures and humid weather conditions.
