Weather Update : Heat wave to hit several states, says IMD

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that the heat wave conditions will prevail over the next few days in some parts of Bihar, Gangetic West Bengal, sub-Himalayan Bengal, Odisha, Sikkim, parts of coastal Andhra Pradesh and Jharkhand. Yesterday, the temperatures were 4-5 degrees above average at various places in Tripura, Odisha and Uttar Pradesh. In many cities, the temperature recorded remained between above 40 degrees.

IMD predicted that the heat wave conditions will continue various states in the next three days. For the following two days, a heatwave is expected to hit several parts of coastal Andhra Pradesh, Prayagraj, eastern regions of Uttar Pradesh. Temperatures in Maharashtra may rise by 2 to 3 degrees, which may lead to rise in temperature beyond 42 degrees in many cities.

The government has advised citizens to stay indoors during the hottest parts of the day and to stay hydrated to prevent heat-related illnesses as the heat wave conditions continue in many states. Over thirteen people died due to rise in temperature at a programme held in Navi Mumbai two days ago.
