Weather Update: Maharashtra to Experience Clear Weather Until Early October Amid Monsoon’s Slow Retreat
Pune: Due to unfavorable conditions for rainfall, the intensity of rain in the state has reduced. Most parts of Maharashtra are expected to experience clear skies until Saturday (October 5th), with only light rain possible in isolated areas. There is no forecast for heavy rainfall or downpours.
According to the Meteorological Department, a cyclonic circulation has developed over Gujarat and western Madhya Pradesh. As a result of this system, light showers were recorded on Sunday (September 29th) in northern Konkan, Thane, and Palghar. However, the rest of the state has seen a break in rainfall. The winds from the Arabian Sea have weakened, and no significant weather system is active over the Bay of Bengal, which means moisture-laden winds from the Bay are not reaching Maharashtra. Hence, the state is currently witnessing a dry spell.
Meanwhile, the withdrawal of monsoon winds has stalled. The process, which began on September 23rd and continued till September 24th, has slowed down. The retreating monsoon winds have moved back from parts of western Gujarat, Rajasthan, Punjab, and Haryana. However, since September 24th, the withdrawal process has halted, and conditions are currently not favorable for further retreat. The monsoon is expected to withdraw from Pune and Mumbai between October 10th and 17th.
Typically, the monsoon withdraws from Mumbai and Pune around October 5th, but in recent years, the retreat has been delayed, according to Dr. Anupam Kashyapi, a retired meteorological scientist.
