PUNE: The state has experienced a deficit in rainfall in the recent days. As per the information provided, there are indications of a cyclonic circulation near the northwest Bay of Bengal around September 4.

Against this backdrop, the Meteorological Department has forecast favourable conditions and the possibility of rain. August saw below-average rainfall in the state, with only a few days of rain. This has resulted in a drought-like situation, particularly in Sangli and Jalna districts, causing issues with agriculture, cattle fodder, and drinking water.

According to the Meteorological Department, there are no active weather systems in the state at the moment. However, there is enough moisture in the air, which could lead to rain and thunderstorms in some areas. Additionally, there are indications of a cyclonic circulation near the northwest Bay of Bengal around September 4. This has created favourable conditions and an increase in the chances of rain. There is a possibility of rain in many places in Konkan and Goa over the next five days. Light to moderate rain is expected in Madhya Maharashtra, Maharashtra, Marathwada, and Vidarbha over the next two days, followed by increased rainfall.

KS Hosalikar, Head of IMD’s Climate Research and Services, Pune, tweeted, ”31 August, the rainfall anomaly forecast by IMD for the coming 4 weeks in September indicates the possibility of a good revival of rainfall starting from the mid-1st week of September to mid-September over parts of the South Peninsula, Central India, including Maharashtra (Marathwada), Konkan, Goa, Karnataka, and the Kerala coast.”
