Weather update: Pune to get moderate rain with thunder and lightning on September 30

Pune: Pune city might get moderate rainfall with thunder & lightning on September 30. 

As per further information & predictions from the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) Pune, strong westerly winds are penetrating the southern part of Maharashtra, especially south & central Konkan & Goa and the southern part of Madhya Maharashtra. There will be enough moisture in clouds even over Pune. From time to time there will be sunny forenoon. The result would be local instability in patches developing into cumulonimbus cells in the afternoon or evening, resulting in moderate rain with thunder or lightning.

In Pune as well, the same thing can be observed. It can be called the commencement of Particha Paus (rain at withdrawal phase). After this, rainfall might be over and in early October, the withdrawal of monsoon will start from the northern parts of Maharashtra.

The IMD Pune recorded the highest rainfall on September 29 (Friday) at the NDA area in Pune with 61.0 mm of rainfall.

Anupam Kashyapi, Head, Weather Forecasting Division, CR & S, India Meteorological Department (IMD) Pune, took it to X on September 29 and predicted, “Though Pune city might remain under cloud cover, rain has reduced significantly.”

The Impact which was expected due to rain on September 29 was:

· Localized flooding of roads, water logging in low-lying areas, and closure of underpasses mainly in urban areas of the above region.

· Occasional reduction in visibility due to heavy rainfall.

· Disruption of traffic in major cities due to water logging in roads leading to increased travel time.

· Minor damage to kutcha roads.

· Possibilities of damage to vulnerable structures.

· Localized landslides/mudslides

· Damage to horticulture and standing crops in some areas due to inundation.
