New features aim to enhance user convenience and protect private conversations from being misused.

WhatsApp is gearing up to roll out an exciting Message Summarization feature, designed to help users quickly grasp the essence of long or group messages with just a glance, thanks to the integration of Meta AI.

According to WABetaInfo, the feature has been spotted in the WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.25.15.12 and is currently in the testing phase. Once released, users will be able to see concise summaries of new messages in personal chats, group conversations, and channels, ideal for those overwhelmed by message overload. A single tap will reveal key highlights without having to scroll through every word.

In parallel with this productivity boost, WhatsApp is also rolling out a major upgrade in user privacy called ‘Advanced Chat Privacy.’ This newly introduced setting gives senders control over whether their messages can be downloaded or exported. The move is designed to prevent the misuse or unauthorized sharing of sensitive conversations outside the intended chat.

“This feature ensures that what’s said in a group, stays in the group,” WhatsApp stated, reinforcing its focus on safe and private messaging.

Key highlights of the update include:

  • Message Summaries: Summarized content from Meta AI in chats, groups, and channels.
  • Export Restrictions: Senders can now disable the ability to export or download messages.
  • Mention Restrictions: Users will no longer be able to tag or directly ask Meta AI questions in chats where this restriction is enabled.
  • Privacy Enhancements: This complements existing tools like end-to-end encryptiondisappearing messages, and chat lock.
  • Screenshot Allowance: Screenshots are still permitted for now, but upcoming updates may introduce restrictions.

The updates are gradually rolling out to all users on the latest version of WhatsApp, with more refinements expected in the near future.
