On February 10 and 11, 2025, France will be the venue for the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Action Summit

During the AI Action Summit held in Paris, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, serving as a co-chair of the event, addressed the topic of artificial intelligence and its impact on employment.

“History has shown that work does not disappear due to technology, its nature changes. New types of jobs are created. We need to invest in skilling and reskilling our people for an AI-driven future. While the positive potential of AI is absolutely amazing, there are many biases that we need to think carefully about. We must build quality datasets free from biases. We must democratize technology and create people-centric applications,” Modi said.

On February 10 and 11, 2025, France was the venue for the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Action Summit, taking place at the Grand Palais. This event will bring together Heads of State and Government, leaders from international organizations, CEOs from both small and large enterprises, as well as representatives from academia, non-governmental organizations, the arts, and civil society.

“AI is already reshaping our polity, economy, security, and society. AI is writing the code for humanity in this century, but it is very different from other technological milestones in human history. There is also a deep interdependence across borders. Therefore, there is a need for a collective global effort to establish governance and standards that uphold our shared values, address risks, and build trust. AI can help transform millions of lives by improving health, education, agriculture, and so much more. It can help create a world in which the journey to sustainable development goals becomes easier and faster. We must pull together resources and talent. We must develop an open-source system that enhances trust and transparency. We must democratize technology and create people-centric applications,” Modi added.

Modi also spoke on the topics of cybersecurity, disinformation, and the risks posed by deep fakes resulting from AI, emphasizing the importance of enhanced security protocols and the ethical implementation of artificial intelligence.

The Prime Minister also discussed the environmental implications of artificial intelligence, recognizing its significant energy demands and the necessity for sustainable alternatives. He said it is clear that the substantial energy intensity associated with AI warrants careful examination. This will necessitate the use of renewable energy to support its future development. He highlighted the International Solar Alliance between India and France as a prime example of how countries can collaborate to merge AI with renewable energy initiatives.

“As we advance our partnership to AI, it is a natural progression from sustainability to innovation to shape a smarter and responsible future,” Modi said.

Modi also conveyed his appreciation to French President Emmanuel Macron for the invitation to represent India at the AI Summit. “I thank the French President for inviting me to the AI Summit. AI has reshaped our economy, security, and society. We must bring together our resources and talents on a common platform,” says the PM.

Modi wrapped up his speech by highlighting India’s achievements in developing extensive digital public infrastructure. “India has successfully built a digital public infrastructure for over 1.4 billion people at a very low cost. It is built around an open and accessible network,” he said.
