I had gone to a play rehearsal and could not pick up the phone. Suddenly my friends started messaging me asking, ‘Do you know what is happening on X (Twitter)?'”
She continued, “Someone sent me a post in which people were discussing whether this is Priya Bapat or Girija Oak. Then my sister-in-law sent some of my viral posts. I was called ‘sexy’ on some pages. But most of all, Marathi fans were saying, ‘Have you seen her now? But we have known her for many years.'”
Taking a measured view of the sudden attention, Girija added, “If I talk about it as a sensible person, it is a trend that comes and goes. But the work I have is here to stay. If people understand my work now, I will be happier.”
Her connection to cinema
Girija Oak comes from a family deeply rooted in the film industry. Her father, Girish Oak, is a veteran actor in Marathi cinema. Her father-in-law is a producer, and her husband works as a director.
Girija has worked across Marathi and Hindi films as well as web series. She played an important role in Shahrukh Khan’s recent blockbuster film “Jawan,” showcasing her presence in mainstream Hindi cinema alongside her established Marathi career.
