A recent query from an Indian tech professional earning close to ₹80 lakh annually sparked heated discussions on Reddit, as he sought advice on whether to move from northern Europe to Bengaluru for a job with a lower compensation of ₹50 lakh CTC. The dilemma raised concerns about lifestyle, work culture, and quality of life in India versus Europe.

In his post, the techie, who has five years of experience working abroad, expressed his interest in relocating to Bengaluru, citing the larger market and better purchasing power in India. However, the lower salary and his family’s concerns about the quality of life in Bengaluru left him uncertain about the move. “Am I being a dumbo?” he asked fellow Redditors.

The post quickly attracted responses, with many users advising against the move. Comments highlighted issues like poor work-life balance, widespread corruption, and environmental pollution in India. One user warned, “If you don’t want job stability and need a toxic work culture, go ahead. Labor laws in the EU protect employees, but in India, layoffs happen frequently.”

Concerns about healthcare, public services, and the difficulty in taking long vacations in India also emerged. “You’ll get a month-long leave in Europe to visit India, but once you’re in Bengaluru, getting 15 days off is a challenge,” one commenter noted.

However, the discussion was not entirely one-sided. A few users acknowledged that the decision depends on personal circumstances, while others humorously suggested staying in Europe for reasons like health, pollution and mental stability.

The debate reflects broader concerns about the trade-offs between professional life in Europe and India, with many suggesting that the stability and quality of life in Europe outweigh the potential benefits of returning to India.
