Police say a 27-year-old woman allegedly lured her boyfriend with a fake surprise proposal, tied him to a chair, and set him on fire in a shocking Bengaluru case.

A disturbing murder case has come to light in Bengaluru, where a 27-year-old woman has been arrested for allegedly killing her boyfriend after inviting him home under the pretext of a surprise marriage proposal.

The accused, identified as Prema alias Prerna, and the victim, Kiran, were both 27 years old and had reportedly been in a relationship for more than a year. Both worked together at a mobile store near Rajajinagar.

According to police, tensions had developed in the relationship in recent months. Investigators said frequent arguments had taken place, with the accused reportedly suspecting the victim’s behaviour and growing emotional distance.

Fake Proposal Plan Alleged

Police said the woman invited Kiran to her home when no family members were present. She allegedly told him she wanted to recreate a “foreign-style proposal” and asked him to trust the process.

Investigators claim she blindfolded him and tied him to a chair, saying it was part of the surprise. Soon after, she allegedly poured fuel on him and set him on fire.

Officials said evidence at the scene, including restraints and the presence of kerosene, points toward pre-planning.

Disturbing Digital Evidence Under Probe

Police are also examining allegations that the accused recorded the incident on her phone while it happened.

An officer quoted in reports said, “Even as the victim was burning, she continued recording the video. This aspect shows the brutality of the crime.”

Digital devices and forensic material have reportedly been seized for further examination.

Contradictory Statement Raised Suspicion

Initially, the accused allegedly told police she was in the bathroom and came out after hearing noise, only to find Kiran injured.

However, investigators said inconsistencies in her version, CCTV footage, forensic findings, and missing evidence led them to suspect foul play.

Investigation Continues

The case was registered following a complaint from the victim’s family. Police are now reconstructing the timeline, examining the couple’s relationship history, and analysing electronic evidence.

The accused has been taken into custody for questioning.

Larger Concern

The case has triggered shock because it allegedly used trust and intimacy as a trap. It also highlights the growing role of digital evidence and forensic reconstruction in solving violent crimes.
