A woman’s resignation following a distressing encounter with her manager has ignited a strong reaction online, shedding light on workplace insensitivity and privacy violations. The incident came to public attention after the woman shared her experience on social media platform X.
According to her post, she had informed her team lead ahead of time that she would be unavailable for a work seminar due to a close relative’s cancer surgery. However, during the emergency, her manager demanded GPS location data, photos from the hospital, and even medical prescriptions to verify her absence.
In a later update, the woman revealed that after she called out the manager’s behavior as disrespectful, he took offense and accused her of having an “attitude problem.” She recounted how he repeatedly asked, ‘Tumhe surgery karni thi?’—implying that her presence wasn’t necessary—and continued pressing her for documentation.
There was a seminar at work yesterday, i had already told my team lead i wouldnt be able to attend. But the manager told me to come yesterday. I told him that a family member had a cancer surgery and this happened. pic.twitter.com/AQEWYNt8T6

The situation escalated further when the manager allegedly yelled at her for nearly 30 minutes, demanding she leave the office and send an apology email along with hospital documents. Instead, she chose to send in her resignation.
The post has since gone viral, drawing widespread support and criticism of toxic workplace culture. Many netizens pointed out the lack of empathy in such environments and raised concerns about the increasing disregard for personal boundaries and mental well-being in the name of professionalism.
“This is insane. Can’t you complain about him to someone else, esp since you had already informed your team lead that you won’t be able to attend,” wrote one user.
“If I were you, I’d file a case against the manager. Not that I’d expect any outcome of the case but would love to drag this sorry ass of a human being to court and keep him waiting there for hours,” was another comment.
