In a significant breakthrough against the proliferation of cryptocurrency scams conducted through the Telegram app under the guise of Work From Home (WFH) opportunities, the detective department has apprehended a key orchestrator in Goa. The individual, identified as Milind Gurudas Chari, stands accused of defrauding a Kolkata resident of Rs 10 lakh.

The cyber cell, after diligent investigation, successfully located and arrested Chari at his residence in Dhatwara, south Goa. Following his apprehension, he was brought to Kolkata on transit remand to face charges related to duping a woman from Kasba, Kolkata, promising substantial returns on investments within a specified timeframe.

The victim, driven by the desire to recover her initial investment, continued to funnel funds into the fraudulent scheme until the total amount defrauded reached Rs 10 lakh.

The Kolkata Police emphasized the prevalence of such scams and urged the public to exercise caution, highlighting the importance of vigilance and skepticism when approached with promises of “easy money.” They reiterated the adage that money is never easily earned and encouraged individuals to remain wary and prioritize their safety in the face of enticing yet dubious financial schemes.
