The heartwarming bond between two elephants, Bhama and Kamatchi, has captured the attention of netizens after Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer Supriya Sahu shared their story on social media platform X (formerly Twitter). 

The elephants, who have been inseparable friends for the past 55 years, reside at the elephant camp in Theppakadu, Mudumalai, Tamil Nadu.

Bhama, aged 75, and Kamatchi, aged 65, have formed a deep and enduring friendship, characterized by bravery, loyalty, and affection. Sahu described them as courageous creatures who share a special bond that transcends their age and species.

In her post, Sahu highlighted the endearing rituals observed by the elephant friends, such as standing next to each other while enjoying their meals at the camp. Their favorite treat, sugarcane, is always shared between them, symbolizing their inseparable companionship.

The extraordinary bravery of Bhama and Kamatchi was also recounted by Sahu. Bhama demonstrated her courage when her mahout, Thiru Gopan, was attacked and injured by a leopard during a grazing expedition. Despite the danger, Bhama fearlessly confronted the leopard and saved her mahout’s life. Similarly, Kamatchi endured a tusker’s attack, sustaining serious injuries that took years to heal. Through it all, Kamatchi displayed remarkable resilience and determination.

Sahu’s post resonated deeply with users on X, garnering over 35.5K views and sparking a flurry of comments praising the elephants’ remarkable friendship and bravery. Many users expressed admiration for the compassion and loyalty exhibited by Bhama and Kamatchi, noting that elephants often demonstrate qualities that surpass those found in humans.
