Yerawada Open Jail Starts a Restaurant ‘Shrunkhala Upahar Gruha’ Run by Jail Inmates

Pune: With the intention of rehabilitation amongst prisoners, the Yerawada Open Jail has begun a restaurant called Shrunkhala Upahar Gruha in the jail premises which will be run by jail inmates.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, Anil Khamkar, Yerawada Open Jail Superintendent said, “The restaurant has been inaugurated on August 9 (Wednesday) in the Yerawada Jail premises. It is open from 8 am to 8 pm. The primary objective behind opening such a restaurant is for the rehabilitation of the prisoners and bringing about improvement in their overall behaviour and demeanour about leaving the crime world for good.”

As per information from Anil Khamkar, as of now, 10 jail inmates work in the restaurant and perform various jobs like washing utensils, cooking, serving and many more. Several delicacies like vada pav, tea, coffee, pav bhaji, rice plate, puff, samosa, misal, pohe and many others will be cooked here daily. The number of inmates working in the restaurant will be increased as per demand.

Punekars can visit the eatery and appreciate scrumptious food articles made of natural ingredients developed by prisoners in jail. Plus, the framework, painting, guest plan and the plan of the restaurants have been arranged by the prisoners.

Hence, all Punekars are eagerly invited to visit the restaurant to enjoy various delicacies.
