Manisha Koirala revealed that Vidhu Vinod Chopra nearly dismissed her from the film 1942 A Love Story, saying she lacked acting skills.

Manisha Koirala shared her initial challenges in the film industry, especially during the production of 1942: A Love Story.

In a conversation with ANI, the actress reminisced about her initial screen test, where Chopra reprimanded her and even remarked that she “lacked acting skills.”

“I had never done something like this. At that time, this project was massive. And I got scolded during my first screen test. Vinod had told me that you don’t know how to act. So I worked very hard and requested him to give me one more chance. So he did. I got it with a lot of hard work. And I had understood that during this entire thing, I could not slack,” says Koirala.

The actress acknowledged that as a newcomer to the industry, she had limited understanding initially, but Chopra’s encouragement and mentorship were instrumental in helping her navigate the challenges.

Although the film achieved significant success and captured many hearts, her path was far from smooth. In the early stages of her career, Manisha faced the challenge of striving to meet the lofty expectations set by director Vidhu Vinod Chopra.

She also talked about his helpful suggestions for her. “Vinod used to tell me, ‘Look, Manisha, both the superstars are in love with you in the film. So you better do everything to look beautiful. No matter what you do, I don’t know, but you have to look perfect.”

Manisha Koirala, born on August 16, 1970, is a renowned actress from Nepal who has made a significant impact in Indian cinema, particularly in Hindi and Tamil films. She is celebrated for her performances in both mainstream and independent movies and has received numerous awards for her contributions to the industry.

1942: A Love Story marked a significant milestone in Manisha Koirala’s career. Prior to this film, she was recognized as a promising talent, yet her acting abilities had not been fully showcased.

The candid conversation with ANI also reflected on the other aspects of her life. She explained her reluctance to enter the political sphere, “I feel for an actor to be a good politician, it’s a struggle. Because as an actor, we get so much attention. So much is like on our call. We are like bosses. A politician is basically though there is a leader and you drive the people but you are also a servant of the people,” she added.
