A 22-year-old man, Koushik Karan from West Bengal, was detained by police at Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport for trying to open the emergency exit door of an IndiGo aeroplane during a flight from Kolkata to Bengaluru. This event occurred on Tuesday, and the flight crew promptly handed him over to airport security after the plane landed safely.

Karan was seated right next to the emergency exit in seat number 18 when he was caught by the cabin crew attempting to open the door before the plane had landed. The crew quickly intervened and prevented him from opening the door.

During questioning, Karan explained that it was his first time flying and he did not know the rules regarding emergency exits. He claimed that he did not intend to cause any harm and was merely trying to stand up by holding onto the door. Currently a first-year MCA student, Karan was travelling to Bengaluru to visit relatives.

The police have charged him under section 336 of the Indian Penal Code, which deals with acts endangering the life or personal safety of others. This incident is reminiscent of a similar case last year where a drunk passenger tried to open an emergency door on another IndiGo flight from Delhi to Bengaluru.
