₹4 Lakh, 1,500 Attendees’: Gujarat Family Holds Burial Ceremony for ‘Lucky’ Car, Performs ‘Last Rites’—Viral Video
In a heartwarming and unusual gesture, a farmer’s family in Gujarat’s Amreli district organized a grand “samadhi” (burial) ceremony for their trusted hatchback, which had been a part of their family for over 15 years. Sanjay Polra, the car’s owner, attributed the family’s prosperity and elevated social standing to the vehicle, which prompted him to give it an honorable sendoff.
The ceremony, held in Padarshinga village, was attended by 1,500 villagers and invitees, including saints and local spiritual preachers. The car, decked with flowers, was taken out in a procession to the “samadhi” spot on Polra’s farm, where ritualistic prayers were offered to the family deity.

Polra, who purchased the car in 2006, credited it with bringing good fortune and social prestige to his family. “I wanted to do something different, so I decided on a respectable adieu in the form of samadhi for the car,” he said while talking to media. The family will offer floral tributes to the memorial every year on November 7 and plans to plant trees around it.
Polra sent out specially designed four-page invitations to over 2,000 people, reading: “This car has been like a family member since 2006, and it brought us good fortunes… We want this car in our memory forever.”
Vipul Sojitra, a villager, initially found the invitation amusing but appreciated the family’s sentiment. “They wanted to do something out of the box for their beloved car.”
This extraordinary farewell ceremony highlights the emotional bond between humans and their possessions, showcasing the Polra family’s gratitude and affection for their trusted vehicle.
