A startup founded by IIT graduates is receiving widespread praise online after its founders revealed that they offered a higher salary to a candidate than what he had asked for during recruitment.

The story surfaced after the founders of the Instagram page “IIT Ke 4 Launde” shared a video explaining why they decided to pay an engineer ₹50,000 per month, even though the candidate had only requested ₹35,000.

According to the founders, the candidate was already earning around ₹30,000 in his previous job and had asked for a modest raise during the interview process. However, the company had already approved a hiring budget of ₹50,000 for the role. Instead of negotiating for a lower salary, the founders decided to offer the full approved amount.

“Candidate asked for 35k/month, but we offered 50k/month because for that role we have approved 50k,” the founders wrote while sharing the video online.

One of the founders explained in the clip that if the organisation had already valued the role at ₹50,000, there was no reason to underpay the candidate simply because he asked for less.

“I have accepted that budget. According to me, that work has value. That budget is approved,” the founder said in the video.

He further added, “If I can solve that problem for you, where you don’t have to think whether it is ₹30,000 or ₹35,000, then I should solve that problem for you.”

The founders also spoke about the long-term benefits of fair pay and employee retention. Another co-founder revealed that the same employee has continued working with the company for the past three years.

“People don’t realize this but the guy has been with us for the last 3 years and if he would have gone in between, then our cost of rehiring would have been very high,” he said. “We always prefer quality over cost optimization.”

The video quickly gained attention on social media, with many users appreciating the company’s approach towards hiring and employee welfare.
