1 killed, several injured after being hit by Sawantwadi-Diva Express on Konkan Railway

In a tragic incident on the Konkan Railway route, one labourer lost his life while four others sustained injuries after being hit by the Sawantwadi-Diva Express. The accident occurred in a railway tunnel between Khed and Anjani around 3 pm on Monday.

The deceased labourer has been identified as Yeshwant Tukaram Rathod. According to sources, the incident took place while the labourers were engaged in laying underground cables inside the tunnel.

Among the injured, the conditions of Jemlopa Rathod and Ashok Rathod are reported to be critical, while two others, including Sunita Rathod, received first aid at the local hospital and were discharged.

A spokesperson from Konkan Railway stated, “The accident occurred as the train was travelling from Sawantwadi to Diva. However, the exact cause of the accident remains unclear.”

Upon receiving information about the incident, medical officers from Konkan Railway promptly arrived at the scene and assisted in transporting the injured to nearby hospitals in Kalambani and Derwan with the help of residents.

In response to the tragedy, Konkan Railway has formed a three-member committee to investigate the circumstances leading to the mishap. The committee has been tasked with submitting a preliminary report within 15 days.

Additionally, authorities have assured that all dues and compensation owed to the affected workers will be provided in accordance with regulations. The Khed police have initiated an inquiry into the accident and conducted a panchanama of the site.
