15 Pune Based Engineering Colleges Face Action For Unauthorized Admissions
The Maharashtra State Common Entrance Test (CET) Cell has issued notices to 15 engineering colleges in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad for admitting students against vacant seats before the conclusion of the regular admission rounds. This action comes after the Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) instructed these institutions to immediately reveal their admission processes.
The colleges under scrutiny include DY Patil College of Engineering, Akurdi, DY Patil Institute of Engineering and Management Research, Akurdi, and several others, including Indira College of Engineering and Management and Dhole Patil College of Engineering. The CET Cell and DTE’s actions highlight the seriousness of adherence to admission regulations.
The CET Cell manages engineering college admissions across the state. According to regulations, the third admission round will end on Monday, September 9, with seats expected to remain vacant afterward. However, several colleges began admitting students before the CAP rounds were completed, breaching CET Cell guidelines. Allegations have surfaced that these institutions admitted students with lower marks in exchange for substantial financial payments.
Yuva Sena’s joint secretary, Kalpesh Yadav, filed a complaint with the CET Cell regarding these irregularities. The complaint led to requests for action against CET Cell Commissioner Dilip Sardesai and DTE Director Dr. Vinod Mohitkar. Consequently, Dattatray Jadhav from the Pune Divisional Office of DTE issued notices to the principals of the involved colleges, demanding immediate disclosure of their admission processes. The notice warned that any illegal admissions could be canceled.
