With this motivation, the students of D.Y Patil Dental School under the guidance of Dr Anand Shigli, Dean, D Y Patil Dental School in collaboration with National Service Scheme and the Green Avani Foundation, celebrated Van Mahotsav on 25 June in Lohegaon, Pune.

Van Mahotsav i.e. ‘The festival of forests’  was started in 1947 in order to create awareness amongst people for the conservation of forests and planting new trees. Thousands of trees, saplings, and plants are planted all over the country in this one-week-long festival.

Van Mahotsav educates the masses and portrays the need for planting and tending trees, as trees are one of the best ways to prevent global warming and reduce pollution.

The plantation drive started early morning, at 7:30 am at a hill near the campus, seeing active participation from 80 student volunteers and staff members of the college. Each one were handed gardening equipment and saplings to be planted which was was efficiently managed by the respective authorities. The volunteers were divided into small groups and were given tasks of their own. Everyone worked in unity.

A total of about 150 saplings were planted around the area as an effective step taken in order to conserve the environment, around the campus.
Every step of the drive, was appreciated by the representatives of Green Avani foundation and the local forest department officials. The programme created a great stir amongst the general public as well!

The rise in global warming and deforestation needs to be leveled by such tree plantation drives and several more of these drives will be carried out in the upcoming future for the good cause.
