16th Vasantotsav in Pune begins with stupendous performance by Kaushiki Chakraborty

Pune : Classical vocalist Kaushiki Chakraborty mesmerized the audience as the Punit Balan Group, Dr Vasantrao Deshpande Prathishthan and MIT World Peace University’s School of Liberal Arts jointly organized 16th Vasantotsav began on a stellar note at Suryakant Kakade Farms in Kothrud, Pune. 

Kaushiki, daughter of Pandit Ajoy Chakraborty, and an exponent of Patiala Gharana, started the three-day musical festival with her stupendous performance.

Bapu Deshpande of Dr Vasantrao Deshpande Prathishthan, Adinath Mangeshkar, son of Pandit Hridaynath Mangeshkar, Ajit Gadgil of PN Gadgil and Sons, Vijay Kakade of Suryakant Kakade Sanskruti Prathishthan, Sushil Jadhav and Bhalchandra Kunte of Lokmanya Multipurpose Co-operative Society and MIT School of Liberal Arts Head Dr Priti Joshi among others were present on the occasion.

This year’s Vasantotsav also paid tribute to Bharat Ratna Lata Mangeshkar, who passed away in 2022. The stage with the Ajantha-Ellora caves theme, was an attraction for the audience.

Kaushiki started with Raag Madhuvanti and then presented a slow tempo rendition “Shyam Bhaye”.

“It is a special feeling to perform at Vasantotsav as for the first time, I’m  performing with Rahul Deshpande. Both of us prepared well for our co-performance,” the classical vocalist noted.

Kaushiki, accompanied by Ishan Ghosh (Tabla), Tanmay Deochakke (Harmonium), Murad Ali Khan (Sarangi), then performed two renditions “Guru Charan Dhyan Dhare’ in Jhap Tal and “Kahe Man Karo Sakhire”.

Then national award winning vocalist Rahul Deshpande started with Raag Kaushi and presented two Bandish, one of Pt Vasantrao Deshpande and another of Pt Kumar Gandharva.  

He concluded his performance by a song – “Dil Ki Tapish” from Marathi film ‘Sangeet Katyyar Kaljat Ghusali’.

Meanwhile, Vidushi Shubhada Paradkar, a senior vocalist and Guru from Gwalior-Agra tradition, Dr Shubhada Kulkarni, a music researcher and an author and young tabla player Kartikswami Dahifale receive the Vasantotsav Awards 2023.
