181 Complaints Raised Over Noise Pollution In Pune During Dahi Handi : Kothrud registers highest complaints Pune Pulse

Pune: On September 7, the control room of Pune City Police received a significant number of calls regarding noise pollution in various parts of the city, all of which were linked to the use of loudspeakers during the Dahi Handi festival.

As per the information, the control room’s helpline number 112 received a total of 181 such calls throughout the day. The festival resulted in the installation of large loudspeakers by mandals and organizers across the city, with some locations even hosting live performances.

As per the information, these festivities led to the violation of sound limits set by the high court and norms, prompting callers to report the matter to the city police via the 112 helpline. The police dealt with the majority of these complaints, with the highest number of calls originating from Kothrud (23 calls) and Sinhagad Road (20 calls).

Additionally, Bharti Vidyapeeth area received 14 calls, Vishrambaug area received 13 calls, and the Khadak Police Station jurisdiction received 12 calls. Vishrantwadi, Uttam Nagar, and Bund Garden areas each registered a single complaint.

While talking to Pune Pulse, Hemant Patil, Police Inspector, Kothrud, added, “Kothrud reported the highest number of complaints. Action will be taken against individuals who have violated norms. The process has been initiated, and further details will be provided once action is taken.”

While talking to Pune Pulse, Dr. Avinash Bondhwe added, ”Noise pollution affects the human body causing hearing loss. Apart from that, it also leads to hypertension, disturbance in sleep, increase in stress, etc.”
