23 PMC officials caught accepting bribes in last five and a half years

Pune: A shocking revelation has come to fore that from 2018 till now, 23 officials and employees of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) have been caught for accepting bribes.

As per information, in 2018, 5 PMC officials were caught accepting bribe, in 2019-20, 3 PMC officials were caught accepting bribe, in 2021, 6 PMC officials were caught accepting bribe, in 2022, 5 PMC officials were caught accepting bribe & in 2023 (till now), 4 PMC officials were caught accepting bribe.

Recently, the founder & dean of PMC’s Atal Bihari Vajpayee Medical College & Hospital Dr Ashish Srinath Banginwar has been caught red-handed for accepting a bribe of Rs 10 Lakh for giving admission to a student in the MBBS course.

Another bribery case took place when a PMC employee had demanded a bribe of Rs 1 lakh to approve the pension of a retired employee of the health department of the PMC. He was caught red-handed by the Anti-Corruption Bureau while accepting the bribe. Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) also arrested a PMC employee in July 2023 while accepting a bribe of Rs 25,000 for giving NOC (No Objection Certificate) from PMC’s Chatushrungi Water Division.
