Pune: A 23-year-old woman working in the IT sector allegedly died by suicide after jumping into the Mula-Mutha river from Mundhwa Bridge in Pune’s Kharadi area. The incident has triggered concern in the city’s IT community, while police have arrested a young man accused of mentally harassing her.

According to police officials, the deceased woman had been staying in a PG accommodation in Kharadi for the past few months. The incident reportedly took place on May 6, when she allegedly jumped into the river from Mundhwa Bridge.

During the investigation, police identified the accused as Chetan Kanade (23), a resident of Vadgaon Sheri. Authorities stated that the accused and the victim were reportedly in a relationship. However, disputes had allegedly arisen between the two, following which the victim was subjected to continuous mental harassment.

Based on a complaint filed by the woman’s brother, Kharadi Police registered a case against the accused and later arrested him. Police officials said the complaint alleged that repeated emotional distress and harassment pushed the woman towards taking the extreme step.

The incident has sparked discussions regarding mental health pressures, toxic relationships and emotional stress among young professionals in Pune’s rapidly growing IT sector. Police said further investigation into the matter is underway.
