3 Senior IPS Officers Suspended for Harassing Actor-Model Kadambari Jethwani
The officers allegedly conspired to wrongfully arrest and harass Jethwani, acting on a false complaint during the previous administration.
Three senior IPS officers in Andhra Pradesh have been suspended over allegations of harassment and wrongful arrest of actor-model Kadambari Jethwani. The officers, including a Director General (DG) of Police, were suspended following an inquiry that revealed their involvement in a conspiracy to intimidate the Mumbai-based actor into withdrawing a previous case.
Kadambari Jethwani accused the officers of acting under pressure from K.V.R. Vidyasagar, a YSR Congress Party leader and film producer, who had filed a false case against her and her family in February. She claimed the officers—former Intelligence Chief P. Sitharama Anjaneyulu (DG rank), former Vijayawada Police Commissioner Kranti Rana Tata (IG rank) and former Deputy Commissioner of Police Vishal Gunni (Superintendent rank)—colluded with Vidyasagar, leading to her family’s wrongful arrest and prolonged detention without due process.
Jethwani alleged that she and her elderly parents were forcibly taken from Mumbai to Vijayawada without prior notice and spent over 40 days in judicial custody. Her advocate, N. Srinivas, also highlighted that fabricated land documents were used in a false forgery and extortion case to frame Jethwani and her family.
An inquiry, led by CCS Assistant Commissioner of Police K. Sravanthi Roy, found evidence of misconduct, with Anjaneyulu ordering the arrest even before an FIR was officially registered. Following the investigation, the Andhra Pradesh government suspended the officers, citing “grave misconduct and dereliction of duty” in a government order.
The case has attracted widespread public attention, and further disciplinary action is expected.
