On Saturday, the Pune Metro experienced a significant surge in passengers during the Ganpati festival, setting a new daily ridership record. A total of 243,435 passengers utilized the service between 6 a.m. and midnight, surpassing the previous record of 199,439 set during the Wari procession on June 30. Prior to that, the highest ridership was recorded on August 15, 2023, with 168,012 passengers.

The rush started in the afternoon, and by evening, metro coaches were packed, and stations were bustling with activity. The metro operates on two key routes—Vanaz to Ramwadi and Pimpri to Shivajinagar Court. More than 175,000 passengers traveled between 6 a.m. and 8 p.m. alone. In response to the increased demand, metro services were extended until midnight. This trend is expected to continue on Sunday, especially with Monday, September 16, being declared a public holiday for Eid. The extended metro hours have made it easier for people to visit various Ganesh pandals, contributing to the rise in ridership.

The busiest station on Saturday was PMC, with 41,475 passengers, followed by PCMC with 39,682 passengers. Other stations with significant foot traffic included Ramwadi with 19,227 passengers, Deccan Gymkhana with 15,653, Pune Railway Station with 13,926, District Court with 13,761, and Vanaz with 11,982.

In terms of revenue, the day brought in a total of ₹2,973,589, with 94,848 passengers on Line 1 (PCMC to District Court) and 148,587 passengers on Line 2 (Vanaz to Ramwadi).

According to Pune Metro Authority Pune Metro has achieved a record-breaking ridership. He expects the metro to break this record again on September 18, the 10th day of Ganesh immersion, as the metro will operate continuously for 24 hours from 6 a.m. on September 17 until 6 a.m. on September 18.
